Deserai Miller, Ph.D., LCSW
Deserai Miller, Ph.D., LCSW. Deserai earned her Ph.D. in Special Education and her Master’s degree in social work with a specialization in schools from the University of Illinois. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the Special Education Department at the University of Illinois. Her research focuses on the provision of trauma-informed care through special education service delivery, which she has taught to both undergraduate and graduate students in the University of Ilinois’ School of Social Work and the Department of Special Education. Additionally, Deserai has presented at a variety of national and international conferences related to this work and recently served as a co-editor for the Division for Early Childhood’s Young Exceptional Children Monograph Series No. 17 on Maltreatment and Toxic Stress. Prior to pursuing her doctoral degree, she worked in the field of special education as a school social worker for ten years. During this time, she served families and children with special needs in many capacities, including work at a residential school for students with learning disabilities, at a therapeutic day school for students with emotional disabilities and at a public school in Champaign.
