Sensitive Topics in Caregiving: Tough Questions and Complex Answers

The MFLN Military Caregiving concentration will offer a three-part virtual learning event (VLE) for military helping professionals focused on learning skills and strategies for improved communication in times of crisis and encouraging preventative action and efforts.  Helping professionals, as well as military families, often find it difficult to discuss certain topics. Professionals may feel they are not adequately prepared to ask questions or provide the necessary feedback to meet the needs of their clients. Additionally, families may not feel comfortable discussing and addressing issues with professionals or even within the family context.

Throughout the VLE military helping professionals will be able to identify sensitive topics, analyze strategies and best practices for effective communication with families, and apply what they learn using case studies and scenarios from the field. The overall outcome of the VLE, is to decrease apprehension and resistance for helping professionals and caregivers to address sensitive topics.

Our intended audience for this VLE are those who work with families in many contexts of caregiving, both within the military system (such as EFMPs, wounded warrior care) as well as those who support military families in other contexts (such as state and community agencies).

The VLE will include three, 90-minute session held over three-weeks that will weave together an opportunity for in-depth, engaged learning through instruction, discussion, and application.
