About This Webinar:

School children with special needs faced unusual disruption to the end of their school year in May/June 2020 and teachers, parents, and caregivers scrambled to turn the living room into a classroom. School closures and social distancing did not just cause impromptu homeschooling, it also has the effect of causing a longer at-home summer and the need to prepare for a new normal in the upcoming school year.

Parents, caregivers, and teachers are now required to address questions such as:

  • How did my role as a member of my child with special needs team change?
  • What does his or her IEP look like?
  • What shape will services take in the upcoming school year?
  • How do I continue to advocate for my child given the new circumstances?

Learning Objectives

In this webinar, we provide resources to service providers so they can help parents and caregivers work with teachers to address these questions. Specifically, we focus on:

  • What parents need to plan for their children during school closures and long-term absence from schools
  • What questions/resources/services can parents speak with the school district about
  • How to plan for your children with specific health issues
  • How parents/caregivers can stay engaged and advocate for the child
