Empowering Diabetes-Self Management Utilizing the Latest Technology in Personal Blood Glucose Monitoring

With the surge in diabetes glucose monitoring technology, people with diabetes can more effectively manage their blood glucose levels. This session will discuss the variety of monitoring options available, including similarities, limitations, and differences. Attendees will also learn more about how to interpret the large amount of data to inform recommendations to patients and clients as well as empower individual users to improve time in range using their own data.
Following the presentation, participants will be able to:
- Compare and contrast personal blood glucose monitoring systems that can be used by people with diabetes and their families.
- Use data from blood glucose monitoring systems to evaluate patient diabetes care regimens and inform recommendations made to patients or clients.
- Describe strategies to help users of personal blood glucose monitoring learn about using their own data to improve their diabetes-related treatment goals.
Becky is the Director of Education at Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center. As a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator for over 10 years, she works closely with physicians and patients to facilitate diabetes self-management education. She also serves as a study coordinator in our Clinical Research department, giving her the opportunity to work with many new diabetes medications and devices in the research setting.
Becky is uniquely qualified as she has had Type 1 diabetes for 33 years and has worn an insulin pump for 27 years. She especially loves working with children and teens with type 1 diabetes as well as patients of all ages with insulin pumps. She is a certified pump trainer for all of the insulin pump companies currently on the market. Becky has also received additional training in providing Medical Nutrition Therapy for patients with eating disorders. She is an avid proponent of intuitive or mindful eating which significantly influences her preferred approach to nutrition counseling and education.
