Supportive adult-youth relationships are an important component of youth programs and critical for those programs that want to create a welcoming and safe environment. Learn staff development strategies to foster supportive adult-youth relationships and help make your program more inclusive.
This webinar is second in a series. The first webinar, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Youth Programs: Developing Inclusive Program Structures is on August 3rd, 2021.
- Be introduced to the Youth Inclusion Implementation Guide (YIIG) and Module
- Be introduced to the model for adult learning within the YIIG (i.e. reflective practice)
- Learn how adult-youth relationships impact Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
- Learn strategies for strengthening the impact adult-youth relationships have on DEI within the program
Mark Otto and Adeya Richmond work in the REACH Center a part of Extension at the University of Minnesota. The REACH Center utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach integrating both Research and Outreach to support those who work with and on behalf of children, youth, and families. Through a three-fold approach, the REACH Center provides empirical research that identifies and addresses key issues impacting children, youth, and families and the programs that serve them, and offer outreach and professional development through online resources.
Adeya Richmond, PhD, LP, works as the lead research scientist in the REACH Center. Aside from working on projects that focus on youth development and families, her primary research interests include cross-cultural diversity in parenting, racial identity, and youth’s prosocial behaviors. Her secondary research interests are mental and behavioral health disparities across diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
Mark Otto serves as the projects director for outreach in the REACH Center. He provides planning and implementation for both research and outreach and oversees the work of the technology staff. Mark has a BS from Mankato State University and a masters of public affairs from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. He has more than 20 years’ experience working with family, child, and youth programs.
Continuing Education (CE) Credit
MFLN Family Transitions will apply for the following Continuing Education (CE) credits:
- Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists: Programming approval for CE credits will be obtained for Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from the UT Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work.
- Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs): This webinar will offer Contact Hours from the National Council on Family Relations to CFLE’s.
- Case Managers: This program will be submitted to the Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board-certified case managers with clock hours.
- Certificates of completion will also be available for providers interested in documenting their training activities.
