2021 has been a banner year for our MFLN Family Development team! We were able to provide lots of new webinars, mostly within our ongoing Sexual Behavior in Children & Youth (SBCY) Series, as well as three Anchored podcast episodes, and much more programming for our Department of Defense and clinical professional audiences. What follows is a breakdown of all our programming from the past year, featuring significant highlights.
We kicked 2021 off with the first of six SBCY Series webinars. “Overview of Treatment for Children Impacted by Problematic Sexual Behavior of Other Youth” took place back in February 2021 and featured Dr. Esther Deblinger, who is co-founder and co-director of the Child Abuse Research Education and Service (CARES) Institute and a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at Rowan University in Stratford, New Jersey.
Other webinars in the SBCY Series from this year include: “Considering the Adolescent Brain when Addressing Problematic Sexual Behavior of Youth,” “Talking with Youth about Sex, Sexuality, and Media,” “Understanding Children’s Sexual Knowledge and Behavior from a Developmental Perspective,” “Culturally Competent Responses to Youth with Problematic Sexual Behavior,” and “Juvenile Justice Responses to Youth in Conflict with the Law.” The SBCY Series has been our longest-running webinar series, with many more installments to come in 2022!
Also, this past year, we teamed up with MFLN Transitions to host “Coming Together with Sesame Street: Resources for Racial Justice.” In this great webinar, the folks at Sesame Street Workshop shared their new resources on building racial literacy (the skills needed to talk thoughtfully about race and to identify and respond to racism).
Military Family Readiness Academy
Our MFLN Military Family Readiness Academy returned in 2021. Head on over to the 2021 Disaster Readiness in Action page to take part in 8 courses that took place in 2021. And, be sure to RSVP for our upcoming MFRA to launch in June 2022! “Family Well-Being: Navigating the Social Justice Landscape” will consist of three self-paced courses and two live panel discussions for service providers and extension professionals. Sign up for the mailing list today for all future updates.
Our 2021 Anchored. Podcast episodes covered some great topics this year! Our episodes this year looked at topics like “Exploring the Thrive Initiative’s Digital Empowerment Resource for Parents and Professionals,” “An Introduction to the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence’s Caregiver and Provider Resources,” and “Celebrating 15 Years of Sesame Street for Military Families and Beyond.” Access all our Anchored podcast episodes on our website and on iTunes.
Finally, do not miss out on all our great MFLN Family Development blog posts from 2021 as well! In our blog posts, we provide additional content connected to our webinars and series, as well as highlight research and hot topics related to military families. Feel free to add comments to any of our posts or suggest topics that you would like for us to discuss in future blogs.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you all and thank you so much for your continued support of the Military Families Learning Network. Stay safe and hope to see you all in 2022!
