Inclusion of Young Children with Disabilities in Childcare

In the final webinar of their 2019 series on autism, the Family Development Early Intervention (FDEI) team will discuss the inclusion of young children with autism in a variety of settings.  Recently the team sat down with several experts in the field of early childhood special education who each share a passion for inclusion.  In the weeks leading up to the final webinar on Dec. 4, 2019, these conversations will be shared here.

This week, Dr. Jenna Weglarz-Ward, assistant professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, discusses the inclusion of young children with disabilities in childcare settings.  Dr. Weglarz-Ward has worked in the field of special education and early childhood for 20 years in a variety of roles including preschool teacher, childcare provider, early interventionist, literacy tutor, therapeutic recreation staff, and parent. She values family-centered and play-based practice that aims to best support children’s development regardless of ability level.  Her research focus includes pre-service education, collaboration in early childhood, and recommended practice.
