When presented with sexual issues in couples’ therapy, students and colleagues of Drs. Shelley Green and Douglas Flemons have made the same assumption over and over; they must seek assistance from other clinicians. This was concerning to Green and Douglas, as these systemically trained therapists were missing an opportunity to create ‘positive sexual change for clients.’

‘We find that traditional approaches to sex therapy are often pathologizing of people and their problems. We prefer to access the expertise and wisdom of our clients, pointing them away from seemingly terminal diagnoses and toward creative conversations that can allow new understandings of and possibilities for sexual desires and behaviors.’

Through Quickies: The Handbook of Brief Sex Therapy, Green and Flemons provide the reader with a variety of approaches to sex therapy, presented by a variety of well-known therapists in the field.  If you are looking for a ‘quick’ read full of wisdom and insight into the world of systemic, brief sex therapy, this is the book for you.

If you would like to hear more information about this book and Green and Flemons’ perspective on approaches to sex therapy, you can listen to our one-on-one interview with them through our Anchored. Podcast Series. Their interview is Episode 6| Private Parts: Exploring Intimacy Issues with Couples.  If you are also interested in obtaining CEUs for this podcast, they are available for one year from the date of release (May 29, 2017).
